As women gracefully enter their 50s and beyond, maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle becomes increasingly important. Regular walking is an excellent way to stay fit, improve cardiovascular health, and boost overall well-being, and the right walking shoes are crucial for ensuring comfort, support, and injury prevention. In this guide, we'll explore key factors to consider when choosing the best walking shoes for women over 50.
Walking Is The Ultimate Better Balance Exercise
I was tired. I had been traveling. Perhaps I was dehydrated or congested, or maybe the altitude was getting to me. But as I walked down the hallway of the Park City hotel, the floor tilted and threw me against the wall. I stood there for a few minutes, hoping the floor would return to its usual flat and stable position. It was a bout of vertigo, brought on by who knows what. My balance returned as the morning went on and that disconcerting feeling hasn’t returned since, but I vividly remember the disorienting walk down that hotel hallway.
When Is a Walk Actually a Hike?
Yesterday, instead of walking my favorite two-mile dirt road that starts behind the golf course and ends at the bay, I decided to try a different trail through the woods. Marked by blue trail markers nailed just above eye level on the trees, this three-mile loop starts at a small parking area just off of a busy road. The trail winds through the woods with some moderate ups and downs, though it is never more than a mile from the road, and only at the farthest point are you fully out of range of hearing the occasional roar of a truck barreling down the road.
Was I walking or hiking yesterday? For that matter, is my typical walk down the dirt road a walk or a hike? Is there a real distinction, or is this merely a “you say tomato, I say tomato” situation? Perhaps more importantly, does it matter?
