Embracing the stage in life where her kids are mostly grown, Pack Member Nina Mefford, age 50, is making her way back to some “me time” and pursuing her hobbies. And that includes taking the time to walk, with a 99 Walks coach in her ear cheering her on, and helping her remember that she is worth spending time for herself. She’s kicking aside the mentality of doing something only because it’s “good for her,” which was only accompanied by a bad attitude toward exercise, low self esteem and boredom, and sinking into the help and encouragement of a team that will walk with her on her journey to better health and wellness.
We recently chatted with Nina, and here’s just a few things we’ve discovered about her.
Home is where her hubby is.
Though Morris, CT is where she lays her head each night at her beloved hobby farm, her true sense of home is found with her sweetheart of 29 years. These two love to travel and go camping together, and sometimes take in a movie. Truly, nothing could be sweeter.
It goes beyond the numbers.
Nina spends her days at a small, full-service accounting firm, but as soon as she gets that free time, you might find her in the garden, with a paintbrush in hand, or snuggled up with a good book. Or, walking on an uncrowded beach, which really restores her soul. Us, too, Nina. Us, too.
Speaking of the beach…
You might just catch Nina daydreaming about walking the beaches of Hawaii or the Caribbean. Yes, Nina, you will get there some day, and we can’t wait to see the snaps of your walks when you do!
When she’s in need of a little inspiration…
Nina looks at the life of Joni Eareckson Tada, a woman who, at age 17, became a quadraplegic after misjudging the shallowness of the water while diving into the Chesapeake Bay. The strength to carry on in the face of adversity is quite the inspiration.
We kinda think Nina is an inspiration herself.
Nope, life isn’t easy, but Nina and her sweetheart remind themselves that when life gets “lifey” (aka messy), then it's time to put on the hip waders and trudge on through. This powerful duo has formed some pretty amazing habits and are extinguishing the “life isn't fair” mentality.
What’s on her nightstand?
Atomic Habits by James Clear and The God of the Garden by Andrew Peterson.
Her crave?
Lobster. Better get your bib ready!
On the bright side.
You won’t find Nina getting caught up in the drama. Instead, she’ll be taking a moment to step outside, take a couple deep breaths, and thank the Lord for her blessings. Yeah, this lady likes to look for the positive!
Her favorite wise words.
Christopher Robin said it best in Winnie the Pooh, but it’s a line you’ll find Nina quoting often: “Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think and loved more than you know.”
