Thanksgiving may look a little different this year, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still feel like a celebration. Make it a year to embrace a new vision of the holiday or create a new tradition. The 99 Walks HQ team is switching things up this year and we thought we’d share with you just how we’re spending our turkey day in hopes that it might inspire you.
Director of Community Jamie is ushering in the holiday season by getting a jumpstart on her decorating with plans to set up and decorate her Christmas tree as soon as the dishes are cleared away on their Thanksgiving meal. There’s nothing that gets you ready for the upcoming holidays like flairs of festivity all around you!
We’ve all learned that 2020 is a year of breaking the rules, so Social Media Manager Jessica will be rolling up her sleeves and making homemade pasta to use in a lasagna! Who says you have to dine on turkey at Thanksgiving?
It is possible to change it up and still fit in the turkey! Pack Leader and Co-Founders Joyce and Eric will also be changing up their meal with lasagna using ground turkey for a nod to the holiday.
Not only will Coach Jenny decorating her home a little early this year, but her whole family — kids and all — will be getting in a good yoga workout to get limbered up for their decorating! It’s this Yogi’s version of a turkey trot!
And because it’s always a great way to start your day, Content Manager Erin and her family will keep to their family tradition -- setting out on a hike on Thanksgiving morning, followed by a rustic picnic of turkey sandwiches and Oreo cookies! It gives them the dose of fresh air needed to fuel them for their journey home at which they cook up queso to snack on during the football games they’ll be watching for the rest of the day!
And speaking of entertainment, Product Manager Megan and her family are planning on keeping it cozy with a dinner of fried chicken, binge watching Christmas movies and playing board games. Now that’s some finger-lickin’ good quality time!
A dream come true for Marketing Manager Mary, this Thanksgiving will find her family at home instead of traveling to three Thanksgiving dinners in one day. Sometimes staying home and keeping the celebration small makes a heart happy!
Pack Support Squad team member Katelyn is keeping her celebrations close to home, but with a focus on helping. This year, since they’re the only family able to come out, she and her husband will be heading to her in-law’s home to help with some chores, make birdfeeders and play with the dog. This is, of course, after they check in with loved ones who live far away to offer their holiday wishes and love.
Martine with our Pack Support Squad is ditching the tradition all-together and planning to order takeout from a really good Chinese restaurant, á la A Christmas Story.
One thing we’ll all be doing on Thanksgiving is going for a walk. Whether before the meal or after, fitting in time for some fresh air, some shoulder to shoulder conversation, and reflection always does the body good.
The options are up to your imagination, so get creative with your Thanksgiving celebration this year. Maybe it’s the time to go extra fancy on the table settings, or extra casual with matching pajamas. Perhaps you bring in family and friends from afar via technology while you share a meal, cocktail or appetizer. Or focus on the giving and put together a food and clothing donation for charity. This year, let’s concentrate on being wildly grateful and thankful for what we have. Here at 99 Walks HQ, we’ll certainly be thinking about how wildly grateful we are for you.
